Ballad Warrior
I was at Mel’s Diner today enjoying bottomless cups of coffee and traditional breakfast fare. I was doing a bit of writing and was keeping to myself – but couldn’t help but notice a dude at the breakfast bar who was dresses head to toe in camouflage.
It was quite hot out today and the guy had on camo pants, camo jacket, camo backpack, camo jungle hat and green/black boots to tie the whole outfit together. The guy was about 60, with a grey beard and looked like a massive Danny Glover. He was tall, barrel chested and had a very gentle face.
After a brief conversation with his waiter, the man got up and relocated himself beside a table-top juke box. He threw in a bunch of money and began selecting the prettiest 50’s ballads you ever did here. As the love songs from yesteryear chimed in the background I continued to write, drank even more coffee, and ordered some apple pie to extend my stay.
A great afternoon of writing and dining was had, with thanks to the mysterious ballad warrior.
